A bad week

It’s been a long week here,
Things seem to be ok, then someone (or probably more accurately something) throws that curve ball and suddenly you feel you’re back at the beginning, or possible even further back than that.

We have been suspecting for a while that Tim may have issues with more than just dairy, and following his failed milk trial (day 1, day 2, day 3 and finally) the dietician said to watch out for other reactions to different foods, suggesting that he might need referring to an allergy specialist at some point (I hadn’t even realised that this was someone different to anyone we were already seeing)

So having another couple of slightly rough days last week I decided to phone the dietician this week to see if we had actually been referred to the allergy specialist or if we needed to get the ball rolling, unfortunately we are no closer as it seems all the dieticians in Hinckley were on holiday last week.

Then we ended up at the GP just to get him checked as he was under the weather (temperature, slightly swollen glands) nothing major, just advised to keep him topped up with paracetamol and ibuprofen as appropriate.

But then things changed, just as he was getting over his temperature etc, it became obvious that he was in pain, he didn’t want to be held and was just rolling around ‘writhing’ on the floor, there was nothing we could do to ease things for him, all I could do was clear the space around him so that he didn’t hurt himself on anything and make sure that he knew we were there. He even started to get a blue hue around his lips, which I don’t know if it was due to him reacting to something or just because he was getting so upset. Either way it was not a good sign.

So after dosing him up with chlorpheniramine he finally calmed down after about an hour, unfortunately it didn’t last and he was awake again at around 3am in much the same state, this has now been going on for the last few days, but finally so far today he has seemed much better (fingerscrossed it isn’t a mistake saying this!)

As well as the painful stomach he has also had bad eczema come up on his legs, which is another reason we are suspecting it is something he has reacted to.

So now to the what he is reacting to?

Well it is very difficult to know, his paediatrician suggested we watch out for things like egg, which I had already been suspecting, and a couple of days before all this started I had a couple of fried eggs (yes unfortunately I am still breastfeeding! I tried stopping but it seems Tim has different ideas to me)

The question is do we continue as we are? do we cut anything else out of his diet (and I guess mine as well as I’m still feeding him)? if so what else do we leave out?

If anyone has any experiences they don’t mind sharing please feel free to share it in the comments as I am open to any suggestions, and before anyone says don’t change anything without getting proper medical advise, tomorrow morning I will be straight on the phone to the dieticians again.

Sammyisms

gigglebiz

Thanks to CBeeBies and in particular Gigglebiz Sammy has learnt about knock, knock jokes.
I know this is how he has learnt about them as he follows a joke with the statement

just like gigglebiz mummy

and I agree they are just as bad as the ones on the show, or maybe just a little bit worse.
So here are a few examples

First attempt

knock, knock

who’s there?

nanna and grandad

nanna and grandad who?

anything

anything in Sammy’s world usually means nothing

knock, knock

who’s there?

Daddy

Daddy who?

Daddy Duncan

Then Daddy Duncan came home and the jokes didn’t improve at all, here was one of Daddy Duncan’s better ones!

knock, knock

who’s there?

Tombli

Tombli who?

no not Tombli who, Tombli BOO!

and one last one that had Daddy Duncan and myself giggling away for a while, a good old fashioned one that seemed to go wrong, remember Sammy knows exactly how a knock, knock joke goes now!

knock, knock

who’s there?

A 3rd birthday

Birthday celebrations began a week early for Sammy as we had Grandma and Poppa visiting a week before, they came to look after the boys while Mummy and Daddy took the Guides to GirlGuiding’s BigGigDSCF3101

So the next day he got the first of his birthday presents

On his actual birthday Nanna and Grandad were visiting and there were more presents, and a very small cake, (the real cake saved for his party) with ‘fires’ on.

The day after his birthday was time for his party, the invites had been sent, all the food prepared and everything ready for the guests arriving.

We played pin the leg on the dinosaur, which was won by Mummy Pink Wellies daughter

and all the usual dancing. singing, pass the parcel and off course food

We aren’t discussing the cake, as it seems after all the work that went into it, Sammy had decided that he had a different dinosaur in mind when he told us he wanted a green one and all we got were tears.

So after a very long few days the boys spent some time chilling in the den under Sammy’s new bed

Christmas cracker gift

This might seem an odd time of year to be writing about Christmas crackers, and not about just any old cracker, but one I pulled between Christmas 2009 and new year 2010.

Yes it sounds very specific, but I remember it vividly, and it helped me to get through from the day I found it until this day 3 years ago, the birth of Sammy!

Anyone reading this must think it must have been something really amazing, maybe one of those huge crackers that contains expensive jewellery or similar, but NO this was a cheap pack of supermarket crackers, pulled around a table at my parents house containing a phone charm.

I still look at it almost everyday, and I get more upset by the boys picking it up to look at in case it gets lost than I do about things like my phone or watch, simply because it reminds me of everything I went through that year.

So why do I feel so strongly about it?

The lead up to Christmas had been stressful, but not for all the usual reasons, we had planned to try to conceive in the New Year, but it wasn’t that simple, as we were looking at having another cycle of ICSI I needed my cycle to be at the right stage in relation to the days that the clinic were open and closed over Christmas and New year, as if anything happened at the wrong time that would mean that we had to wait another month.

Christmas was spent at a hotel with my in-laws, I couldn’t relax as each day I dreaded seeing my period arrive as then it would all be over for another month. I made it to the end of the few days with my husbands family, then we traveled to my family, still feeling on edge about everything, then the crackers were pulled (ok so there had been others during the Christmas break, but this was the important one!)

Out of my cracker came a little butterfly

butterfly1

it wasn’t anything much, and usually cracker gifts end up being put to one side and often forgotten, but this one I had to keep.

At a time when I was feeling so low and alone (remember none of our families knew what was going on in our lives at this stage) I was reminded that I wasn’t alone.

That little butterfly reminded me that I was not the only person sat there having these thoughts, I might not have been able to access the internet at the time, but I knew out there were all these other people having similar thoughts and worries to me.

That little butterfly, reminded me of the logo for Fertility Friends,ff butterfly my lifeline, somewhere I could chat to other people going through exactly what I was going through.fertilityfriends

So from then each time I had a worry and felt alone I would just reach into my pocket and know I was not alone.

Dinosaur Party

All the presents wrapped and Tim has even written his card, getting excited now

Hinckley Yummy Mummy

Sammy will soon be 3 so plans have started for his birthday party.

With all the talk a few weeks ago about Tim’s birthday Sam decided that he wanted a train cake, when we finally got to the bottom of this it seemed he remembered his 2nd birthday cake and had got it into his head that Tim could have a teddy bear cake, but Sam had to have a train again.

So once I hunted out the pictures from both his 1st and 2nd birthdays

he understood that he could have something different each year and then decided on dinosaurs.

Plans started early, or rather I like to start thinking about things early, but don’t necessarily get much done for a while. By the time I started actually doing anything about the party I felt I had been looking for ideas for ages, but finally things got moving.

leaving my boys for the first time

things went generally ok, unfortunately 1 bumped head and a little boy who got up again when we got home and sat on my lap sharing my dinner

Hinckley Yummy Mummy

OK so the title isn’t quite true, Daddy looks after both boys on a Tuesday night while I run Guides and I did leave them for a short we with my parents to have my haircut a couple of months back.
But tomorrow I will be taking a bunch of Guides to the BigGig at at Wembley leaving early an dot returning until past their bedtime.
Grandma and Poppa will be looking after them and I know they are more than capable, but I can’t help but be worried.
Who knows if it is just because it is the first time I am leaving them for this long, or because of Tim’s allergies and Sam’s regular sickness (oh you didn’t know about that? Well Sam is currently being sick at least once, more often twice a week, always in the middle of the night)

So lists have been written, all…

Dinosaur Party

I always make sure that Sammy is involved in things, so once I had got a plan in place for the invites, otherwise known of searching online for some templates. I got to printing.

I printed enough for everyone, plus a couple of spares for practicing on, or because a toddler is involved, in case they lost a leg or head. Cut them out, then left Sammy to decorate them.

So the party invites have been distributed and now we are finalising the last little bits before the party next week.

I have been searching all over the place for ideas (finding it hard as we are keeping everything Tim friendly) and so far the best place I have come up with is definitely partyHopefully things will go to plan and all the children will enjoy the party.
